Episode 69: The Chronicles of Sandra Stosz

Bodhi and his special co-host, Nina Choy-Rohmiller had the privilege to interview Vice Admiral Sandra Stosz, United States Coast Guard (Retired), on this week’s episode of the Shadows Podcast. She was a member of only the third class of cadets at the Coast Guard Academy to admit women. She was the first woman to command an icebreaker on the Great Lakes and to lead a U.S. Armed Forces Service Academy. She spent 12 years at sea, commanding two cutters. She was the first woman assigned as Deputy Commandant for mission support. Newsweek named her to their list of "150 Women Who Shake The World".

During this leadership episode, Sandra takes us through her upbringing and how she established a strong work ethic at a young age. What historical moment sparked her interest in joining the military? She explains some of the challenges she faced and overcame throughout her 40-year career.
